WestJet Airlines Ltd. is a Canadian airline founded in 1996. WestJet provides scheduled and charter air service to 100+ destinations in Canada, the United States, Europe, Mexico, Central America, and the Caribbean.

WestJet is currently the second-largest Canadian air carrier, operating an average of 777 flights and carrying over 66,130 guests per day. In 2018, WestJet carried 25.49 million passengers, making it the ninth-largest airline in North America by passengers carried.

Each year, airlines throw out enough aluminum cans to build 58, 747s. That's a ton of wasted aluminum that will take hundreds of years to decompose- and that's just the recyclable cans that are being thrown in the garbage, not counting the plastic cups, plastic water bottles, paper napkins etc. that could all be recycled. 

With other major competing airlines, such as Air Canada implementing new Waste Management Strategies that aim to reduce their waste sent to landfill by 20%, its time that WestJet establishes the same. With the planet's state becoming more and more severe in terms of pollution and the amount of waste, it is crucial for airlines to do their part and contribute the most efficient and economically friendly form of waste management possible. Although WestJet does have a recycling program in place, it hasn't been revised since 2014 and could be greatly improved.
