When I first saw Straight Outta Compton, I was more than thrilled. The movie was not only well done but I also found it overwhelming from an emotional perspective. The actors were great. O’Shey Jackson Jr (Ice Cube) and Jason Mitchell (Eazy‐E) in particular. Moreover, I loved the movie because it taught me a lot in regards to the hip‐hop history and culture (Ruthless Records, Deathrow Records, Aftermath Entertainment)
However, there is one huge doubt, is the story‐line realistic?
And the answer is: of course not. Universal obviously wanted to make the N.W.A.'s story look like a fairy tale.
In the 90s, when Dr. Dre left the group, Eazy‐E was far from being poor. He never lived in a small house. On the contrary, he had a mansion. I might be rude but the fact is: he was rich as fuck.
Indeed, many successful artists signed on his label. The movie did not even show the presence of Arabian Prince in the group or the beef between Dr. Dre and him. Obviously, Dr Dre had to appear like a kind of hero. It is also hard to understand the movie shows Suge Knight, 2Pac, Snoop Dogg, Da Lench Mob, Warren G, Public Enemy but other very recognised artists of that time such as the Bone Thugs‐N‐Harmony, B.G. Knocc Out or Dresta.
It looks like Dr Dre and Cube were the only important members of the group. But it is worth pointing out that Eazy‐E, MC Ren and DJ Yella also had a phenomenal career. For instance, the movie does not even mention the phenomenal albums “Kizz My Black Azz” by MC Ren (Released before Dr. Dre joined Deathrow Records) and “It's On (Dr. Dre) 187um Killa” from Eazy‐E (Released after Dr. Dre joined Deathrow Records).
It is hard to hold someone responsible. But whoever it is, he or she or they have to apologize. Because It is not fair to denigrate a man who had an amazing career. It is easy to tell lies about a man who is dead. Can he even defend himself?
We all need to know the real truth behind his character,
And for that, we also need the strength of Eazy's family.
We need the documentary "A Ruthless Scandal"
