Congratulations! Public support continues to mount for reopening the Mitscher Park Ice Skating Rink. Your phone calls and emails to City Council members and to Dave Solberg (dave.solberg@eauclairewi.gov), Interim City Manager, and Jay Winzenz (jay.winzenz@eauclairewi.gov) Finance Director have moved the needle in the right direction. Unfortunately, the 2022 proposed Eau Claire budget has already been drafted and will be delivered to City Council on October 1st so we are moving to option #2. Our City Council rep Emily Anderson (emily.anderson@ec-citycouncil.com) is considering amending the budget which would create funds to finance the skating rink. City Manager Solberg has requested that Renee Tyler, Director of Community Services, develop a cost estimate for restoring an ice rink to Mitscher Park. Once that is completed, we can begin to look at amending the budget. It will also open up dialog on outside supplemental funding in addition to what our community is actually requesting. Do we want a warming house, night lights, etc? Or, do we just want a flooded rink that is maintained? We need to continue to call and email our City Council members as well as Mr. Solberg in addition to virtually speaking our opinions at this Monday's City Council meeting at 7pm.
