Preserve Stoneham Park, the Green Belt and the Strategic Gap

We are petitioning Eastleigh Borough Council and the private Highwood Group LLC to stop the development of Stoneham Park as a housing estate. Eight years ago, Eastleigh Borough Council themselves declared "[t]he land to the south of Chestnut Avenue, opposite the school site is identified in the adopted and emerging Local Plans as part of the strategic gap separating Eastleigh from Southampton." It is the last existing gap. EBC and Highwood Group now ignore the importance of this Greenfield land.
Greenfield developments make developers more money, however Brownfield sites are available in the area: Allbrook Brickworks and the Ford plant are abandoned, and the future need for new offices is low, so many of these sites will simply become vacant.
In addition, no evidence has been presented by either the EBC or Highwood Group LLC to show this development will have an acceptable impact on local schools, GPs and local amenities.
The impact on traffic in what is already a heavily congested road network is unacceptable. Three major motorway junctions box in the area, and all are already at a standstill for several hours at peak times. Eastleigh will doubtless experience increases in congestion as a result of the development, even with the current improvements to J5 of the M27. No new roads will be built; instead the develpment adds to roads and junctions currently operating at full capacity.
Please support the people of Eastleigh in calling on Eastleigh Borough Council and the Highwood Group to stop this development and to engage with the people of Eastleigh in sensible development which doesn't threaten Stoneham Park.
