To Our 1,265 Supporters,
Thank you again for standing with us—your voices have made a huge impact!
Here’s where things stand now:
✅ Capitol Visit Recap: We recently brought our concerns directly to the Connecticut State Capitol, meeting with both Senator Saud Anwar and Representative Jaime Foster. They’ve expressed support for our efforts and acknowledged the serious risks this expansion poses to our farmland, forests, and community safety.
🗳️ Legislative Action Pending: A bill has been introduced that could help strengthen protections against irresponsible solar siting, though it hasn’t passed yet. We’re watching it closely and will keep you posted.
⚖️ Connecticut Siting Council Review Ongoing: Gravel Pit Solar has submitted a petition to expand the existing project by another 120 megawatts. Despite being previously approved, this new application is being reopened for review under updated conditions. The Siting Council can still deny the expansion, or approve it with new conditions—and your voices still matter in this decision.
📅 Next Step: Public Hearing Being Scheduled
As of the Council’s May 29 agenda, they’re scheduling the public hearing for this expansion. That means we’ll soon have another opportunity to speak up—formally and on the record.
🔍 What’s unclear? Whether our collective advocacy, even with support from elected officials, will be enough to change the outcome. The Council has approved 88% of applications to date. But with your continued involvement, we can shift the conversation.
🎯 What You Can Do:
Stay tuned—we’ll send details about the public hearing date and how to participate.
