Thank you so much for standing with us—because of you, we brought 1,179 petition signatures to the CT Siting Council this week. Your voices made a difference and continue to be heard.

Tonight we reached 1,200 signatures!

🚨Update: The Connecticut Siting Council has voted to reopen the docket for the Gravel Pit Solar expansion project.

The vote was 5 in favor, 1 opposed (thank you, Bill Syme), and 1 recusal by Dan Lynch. It took just about ten minutes—without much discussion—but the decision to reopen opens the door to public involvement and a more thorough review of the full project.

See link below to Tik Tok video of the CT Siting Council’s “Discussion”Tin the Zoom meeting with captions to hear for yourself.

Here’s why this is important:

Had the Council denied the motion, the developer could have submitted a new petition for the additional 30MW expansion. That would have been reviewed in isolation—without considering the cumulative impacts of the original Gravel Pit Solar project or previously approved petitions (1422 and 1463).

Instead, because this is now a reopening, the Council must consider the entire project and its impact on our town.

What happens next?

There will be a formal hearing, likely in September, and we need to be ready.

Here’s how you can participate:

If you are a neighbor (abutter) to the project site:
You can apply for party status or intervener status, which gives you stronger standing in the hearing.

If you are not an abutter:
You can still become an intervener or make a public comment during the hearing (limited to 3 minutes). Every single voice matters.

We will help anyone who wants to get involved—just send a message to Chris Dahl in her Facebook group below with your phone number or email address and she will walk you through the process.

What else can we do?

Keep writing letters and emails of opposition to the Siting Council—your letters have already made a noticeable impact.

Even the Siting Council acknowledged that their staff has been working harder than usual due to the volume of public opposition they’ve received from East Windsor. Let’s keep the pressure on.

Here’s a powerful quote from Attorney Melanie Bachman of the Siting Council, which validates the strength of our collective voices:

“How much solar is too much? How are these facilities interconnected? This reopening gives us the ability to consider the cumulative impact of Gravel Pit Solar, the expansion, and previously approved facilities.”

Thank you for your patience while I put this announcement out as it was a heartbreaking decision to hear it was reopened, but we must remain hopeful and I don't know about you guys, but I am ready to fight them to the end! 💪🏼

But honestly, look how far we’ve come together in just 10 days! This is our moment to get organized, get loud, and get results.
