Last week my cat got run over. 

But rather my cat than my two young children. 

I have two boys aged 3 and 1, and I fear for their safety as cars whizz past my open drive at double the 30 mph speed limit. 

The '30' signs in my village of Iden, are apologetic and hard to spot. Especially at night as there a no streetlights. The pavement is very thin. I worry that an accident will happen soon. 

Cars, trucks and motorcycles speed through our village like it is an A road. I used to live in Clapham, London, and I was never so scared of the roads there. Because traffic doesn't move that fast in a city. 

Drivers treat it as a throughfare because there is no warning that they are going too fast. 

There is nothing to make them think about their speed.

Neighbouring villages have vehicle activated SLOW DOWN signs that light up when traffic is going too fast. In studies in the UK and US, these Vehicle Activated Signs, or Radar Signs, have been proven to drastically reduce traffic speed and are proven traffic calming device.

I am petitioning for Rother Council to install SLOW DOWN signs in IDEN. It won't cost them much, but it would make a massive difference to our village. 

I'm asking before it's too late, because we don't want people run over as well as animals.
