As someone personally concerned with the increasing cases of teenage pregnancy, I am moved to action. In my local area, and indeed across many parts of the country, early pregnancy is a looming issue that has severe consequences for the young parents and the child. It often comes with economic hardships, jeopardizes education, and brings unexpected life changes.

The Guttmacher Institute reports that each year in the United States, more than 200,000 teens give birth. Alarmingly, fewer than 50% of these teen mothers are likely to graduate high school. To curb this problem, effective sex education plays a crucial role. Comprehensive sex education includes information on contraceptive methods and sexually transmitted infection (STI) prevention, along with nurturing communication and decision-making skills.

Our youth deserve correct, complete, and appropriate educational resources to make informed decisions concerning their reproductive health. By addressing early pregnancy through comprehensive sex education, we can increase graduation rates, reduce healthcare costs, and help our teens accomplish their full potential.
