The Issue
Petition to the House of Commons of Canada
To the House of Commons in
Parliament assembled
Whereas:
•Canadians are facing a significant housing affordability crisis, rising cost of living, and increased pressure on healthcare and education systems;
•Many communities report difficulty accessing primary care, with millions of Canadians currently without a family doctor;
•There is ongoing public concern about whether federal immigration levels are aligned with Canada's housing supply, infrastructure capacity, and labour market needs;
•Canadians expect fair and effective immigration enforcement, including timely processing of asylum claims and removal of individuals who are found inadmissible under Canadian law;
•Canadians expect strong border security screening and enforcement to ensure safety and system integrity;
•Canadians are concerned about federal spending priorities, including international aid, during a period of domestic affordability challenges;
•Canadians expect elected officials to remain accountable to the voters who elected them, including concerns regarding Members of Parliament who change party affiliation after election;
•There is ongoing public discussion regarding federal leadership and policy direction under Prime Minister Mark Carney;
Therefore, we, the undersigned citizens and residents of Canada, call upon the House of Commons to:
•Conduct a comprehensive review of federal immigration levels to ensure they are aligned with housing availability, healthcare capacity, education infrastructure, and labour market conditions;
•Strengthen enforcement of immigration laws, including timely and lawful removal of individuals who are found to be inadmissible or who are convicted of serious criminal offences, consistent with due process under Canadian Law;
•Review border security and screening processes to ensure they are effective and adequately resourced;
•Review federal spending priorities, including international aid, to ensure alignment with domestic affordability and service capacity needs;
•Consider reforms requiring Members of Parliament who cross the floor after being elected to seek a renewed mandate through a by-election;
•Ensure transparent reporting to Parliament on the impacts of major federal policy decisions;
