Every Leiden University student living in the housing provided by DUWO has to pay €500,00 of housing deposit, besides €350,00 for housing fee, €100,00 of moving fee (purpose not specified), and €150,00 of contract costs (although a large number of students have found their apartments in deplorable cleaning conditions and with bugs). Furthermore, an extra €50,00 is paid for bed linen package, which provides elements that can be found at ACTION for half of the price.

Altogether, they add up to €650,00 of non-refundable fees for unclear reasons, and €500,00 of a housing deposit. Furthermore, the housing deposit is only refunded to those students who fill a request form.

Despite the fact that the rent housing is controlled by DUWO, we believe Universiteit Leiden is also responsible for the housing costs and housing agreements.

Therefore, we, the tenants at student residence controlled by DUWO, request:

-       The compulsory refunding of the housing deposit to all students without the necessity of completing any form.
-       The elimination of the mandatory condition of the bed linen package fee.
-       The elimination of the moving fee.
-       The refunding of the contract costs if the housing conditions are unsatisfactory.
