!!PLEASE READ!!

My name is Celeste, I am a high school student in Oshawa, Ontario. Pre-COVID, I relied on public transit- bus 412- to get to and from school every day. I wasn’t the only one, either. Other students, healthcare workers, parents and their children and so many more relied on bus 412 every day. This bus route has been suspended since COVID began, because the route had “no ridership”, even though it was standing room only at least twice a week. Like many others, I am not able to get a ride to and from school every day. I could take the 2 busses needed to get there, but that would take forever and is just plain absurd. So, I will have to walk. 3.2 km, 45 minutes 1 way. That’s fine by me, minus the fact that with the new school hours imposed by the DDSB (10am-4pm), and the way life works, some winter nights will have me, a young female, walking home alone in the dark. The worst thing is, I will not be the only person in a potentially dangerous situation! Long story short, public transit is a necessary part of any community. Taking a popular bus line away from the many people who use it is classist, unfair and above all, ridiculous! Bring back bus 412!!
