I know that the Leaderboards have been a very controversial update, with some posts on the Forum comparing it for 'gamers' not 'learners'.

However, I really enjoyed Duolingo Clubs and having 50 people in a club that could communicate with each other, chat in the language for XP, and help each other in the language. It was a true sign of the strongness of the Duolingo community, and I was devastated to see my club disbanded in the Leaderboard update.

Frankly, there were some clubs that didn't work very well as the owners were young kids however, Duolingo could easily ask how old the user is before allowing them to make a club and allow members of the club to report it if there was any issues!

I hope in the future there will be an update where you can choose to either be in a club or in a leaderboard (I'd definitely choose club)! Hopefully, in this update, it will allow us to communicate also on the web-version (not just in the app-version)?

NOTE: I've seen increasing amounts of posts where people would just like to chat with others, maybe in the languages they're learning. I think Clubs are a great way to do that without annoying some other users that dislike this kind of posts!
