Dunlap's Board of Education is considering drastic and unnecessary cuts to the programs that make Dunlap the most highly rated school district south of the Chicago suburbs. The quality of Dunlap students' education is at stake, and there are long-term financial solutions that exist without making cuts to our superb programs. Please consider signing this petition and asking the Board of Education to use the reserve fund of $48 Million to cover their over-budget spending of only $5 Million next year so that a long-term financial situation can be developed with the help of school finance experts. We have more than enough money in reserves ($48 million) to cover the budget deficit for next year while the Board collaborates with state & educational finance experts to create a sustainable long-term financial plan. 

This is tax-payer money and needs to be spent on education. THIS IS A SCHOOL, NOT A BUSINESS..

The EAV decline (the housing boom is over) has been talked about for years. This financial issue did not appear out of nowhere. There should have been a plan a long time ago, and not having created a long term plan is what caused this emergency.

The effect on our students will be crippling, and they should not be the ones suffering because of poor financial management.

Larger class sizes - we are at maximum capacity as it is.

Effects of elective courses on students are well-documented.

Students will not receive a well-rounded education, be less prepared for the next step of their lives

Many extracurricular activities, foreign language classes, music/theater programs, arts programs, STEM/Business/FACS classes, and more are on the chopping block. These are many of the things that DEFINE Dunlap schools and bring us the reputation we have. 

Dunlap’s reputation will suffer because of drastic and unnecessary cuts.

People choose to move to Dunlap for the schools. If their quality declines, people will leave and move to other schools (Washington, Morton) who offer the programs & services that Dunlap is proposing to cut.

Most of our revenue is from property taxes. If people leave the district and property value declines, our revenue will subsequently decrease and we will be looking at more cuts again.
