St. Gertrude Catholic Elementary School is home to 646 students. As a result of funding cuts, a current proposal has St. Gertrude closing and being divided into two different schools. Some of the most immediate and obvious impacts of this are:

Safety of the children who would be forced to cross major roads, additional transportation costs for nearly 200 students, disruption to the parents of all students but particularly the parents of the French Immersion community, loss of great teacher and support staff relationships, etc.

Ironically, this school is the most cost efficient school in the area under consideration and boasts the highest current and future utilization levels.

Closing this school would be a travesty for the nearly 500 families impacted, the teachers, staff and supportive community. Please look to the facts: it is a great performing school and make the right decision - keep St. Gertrude open.
