Do the Right Thing DUSD - Build a Comprehensive East-Side High School

This petition made change with 1,232 supporters!

This petition is from concerned community members in Dublin CA to voice support for Option 3 - Build a Second High school on Dublin's East side.  Strong schools create strong communities and are key to attracting quality residents.

Option 1 - Increase the size of the current high school.  5,000 students in one school simply can't be managed effectively (more bullying, more drugs, lack of student leadership opportunities, etc) and will result in a suboptimal learning environment for students and unplanned traffic congestion given Dublin's lack of a bus system.  How could the school effectively manage so many students in an overcrowded place in the event of an earthquake, school shooting, terrorist attack, or other disaster? Parents have consistently complained of their commutes to drop kids even at its current level of 2200. It is a nightmare to even imagine challenges at 5000. Every neighboring community of this size has at least TWO Public High Schools. This option will seriously impact home prices, city growth and quality of life in Dublin.

Option 2 - Hybrid Option - Expand DHS by 500 and  Build another High school for 1000-1500 students in an undefined location. This was the option that started the HUGE backlash from the community at Community Forum#2. Nobody knows when and where the school will be built and its extremely likely these students will not receive the same level of education as the other students in the main school site. In addition to the problems in option 1, this is a proposal that is set to fail the fairness principle in education. Even if this new school is on the East-side, it will only cater to half the kids living in the neighborhood. How do you decide which kids get to go there? This is unfair to the community.

Option 3 - Build a Comprehensive Second High school in East Dublin. This will best serve the community in the long-term. It will reduce traffic congestion, give back 1-2 hours of precious time back to our kids for learning than commuting, meet the neighborhood school CORE value of DUSD and help Dublin catch up to neighboring communities of similar size with two high schools and increase its growth potential.

The voting summary on Pg10, 12 & 14 of the LPA report at link below make this very clear.(

It is our hope that the decision makers will truly put the interests of Dublin's residents and students first. The long-term future of Dublin is at stake and we urge you to do the right thing.
