DSST STUDENTS AND FAMILY, 

It has come to our attention that many schools are opting into the Pass/ Fail option for their students, especially seniors. This would allow students to change and apply for the pass or fail option as this is a time of crisis. Pass or Fail would look at the grade of the student at this moment in time and determine if they either pass the class or fail. It can be very difficult for students to be productive and learn when classes are canceled, disrupted, and switched online(which hasn't even fully been successful). We no longer have the same access to resources as we would have on campus, due to so much uncertainty. AP students are the only ones that should advocate for their education and that is only due to the fact that they have the AP test to prepare. 

Therefore, classes should not be a requirement but rather an option. We have already worked very hard these past 4 years (some 7, if you started in middle school), within the DSST system and we all know that was a struggle. We most likely aren't having graduation, prom or anything memorable so why continue with school. If we are not having finals why be REQUIRED to take classes that aren't, preparing us for college.  At this point it is a waste of time when most of us already picked up a job, are stressed about the next steps of college or even worrying about being stable in this stressful time. 

Students have other things to worry about, such as their family's safety and well being. If anything, more hours of the school along with an unreasonable amount of work, would just add more stress to this already stressful situation. 

This petition is meant to help influence DSST to move into a Pass or Fail systems for its students, or even just the seniors. Common grounds can be found between the students and staff, therefore negotiations can be made. Even possibly listening to students and making e-school more efficient can benefit all.
