The Saratoga Springs school district in upstate New York did something simple and humane: it passed a resolution affirming that transgender students can participate in sports and activities consistent with their gender identity.

Now, the U.S. Department of Education is investigating the district — and threatening to punish it for creating an inclusive, respectful environment.

That’s wrong.

At a time when trans students across the country face rising violence, bullying, and isolation, this investigation sends a dangerous message: that inclusion is a violation, and that welcoming all students might cost your school federal support.

We call on the U.S. Department of Education and Secretary Linda McMahon to immediately end the investigation into Saratoga Springs Central School District.

Respect the district’s compliance with New York State law and its commitment to inclusion.
