Add Security to the URBN Center

Add Security to the URBN Center
The Issue
We were the students in the adjoining classrooms of URBN 434 and URBN 432 on Feb 5, 2015 when an unidentified male gained access to a locked classroom on the 4th floor of the URBN center and stole two wallets. We were in two separate sections of the same class and were doing a critique together in one room when the suspect entered the adjoining room. This theft occurred after we had been made aware by faculty of a theft in the Interior Design Department of a personal laptop computer in the beginning of the week. Only after the theft in our department were we made aware that the description of the suspect from both thefts was of the same male. Had we been made aware of the suspect from the first theft we may have been more alert and been able to stop the second theft.
As students who spend a majority of our time in the URBN center we are becoming concerned for our personal safety. Our faculty consistently tells us to never prop any doors open and all of our belongings will be safe but that is not the case anymore since the suspect gained access to a locked classroom.
We are writing to petition that the URBN Center outermost front and back doors be locked 24/7 with card access granted to students in the Antoinette Westphal College of Media Arts and Design and any other Drexel University students that have classes in the URBN center. This type of policy was implemented in the Paul Peck Problem Solving & Research Building in 2013 after a theft of university and student property occurred within the building.
Sincerely, The Graphic Design Class of 2017
