The Issue

Spirit Stallion of the Cimarron is a movie that has touched the hearts of many. It tells the story of a wild mustang who fights for his freedom after being captured by cavalry soldiers. Throughout his journey, he befriends a Native American named Little Creek and the movie brings light to the real life issues that were being faced in the old west between colonizers and natives. This movie was an animated masterpiece, and featured a stunning soundtrack. It showcased as an Oscar and Golden Globe nominee for best animated picture, and ended up winning several other awards.

This is a film that I hold near and dear to my heart, and I know I am not alone in this statement. Despite being recognized by some for its artistry, it was highly underrated, and as time passed, Dreamworks seemed to forget the beauty in what they had created.

Today, Spirit has Been turned into nothing more than a gimmicky children’s cartoon paying no homage to the original movie. All previous characters except for spirit (who now sports a white blaze on his face and is considerably more tame than in the OG Film) have been cut from the show, replaced by unfamiliar faces and cheesy story plots.

This is why I am petitioning for an *authentic* live action remake of the OG 2002 film. To bring justice to a piece of art that has been carelessly turned into a mediocre children’s cartoon. To bring a sense of peace and joy to all of us who have been appalled by what Spirit has become, and have patiently awaited its return in another form. This movie would shed a classic film in a new light, and show the young generation and old what this story is really made of. This is something we are passionate about, and we know it has a great potential to be one of the best live action remakes ever made.
