DreamWorks’ Shark Tale deserves a sequel.

DreamWorks’ Shark Tale deserves a sequel.
The Issue
On October 1st, 2004, the Dreamworks animated sleeper hit Shark Tale was released. The film is directed by Vicky Jenson (who previously directed Shrek), Bibo Bergeron (The Road to El Dorado), and Rob Letterman (Monsters vs. Aliens and Detective Pikachu). The voice cast includes Will Smith, Jack Black, Robert De Nero, Renée Zellwegger, Angelina Jolie and Martin Scorsese.
The supporting cast includes the late Peter Falk, Vincent Pastore, Michael Imperioli, Ziggy Marley, Doug E. Doug, and Katie Couric. The film’s story centers on a comical, street wise bluestreak cleaner fish named Oscar (Will Smith) who has big dreams and tells a big lie about killing Frankie (Michael Imperioli), the son of a great white shark mob boss named Don Lino and gains fame as a “Sharkslayer”. To keep up his lie, Oscar teams up with and befriends Lino’s younger son Lenny (Jack Black), who happens to be a vegetarian shark. Meanwhile, Oscar is caught in a love triangle between his angelfish friend and coworker, Angie (Renée Zellwegger), who later becomes his girlfriend and a seductive lionfish gold digger named Lola (Angelina Jolie).
I decided to make this petition in attempt to get Dreamworks to start working on a sequel to Shark Tale. Especially knowing it was #1 in the box office in the U.S and Canada for three weekends. Shark Tale was the second highest grossing Dreamworks animated film in 2004 since Shrek 2 and made $367 million worldwide against it’s $75 million budget. It was even nominated at the Academy Awards for Best Animated Feature, losing to Pixar’s The Incredibles. I believe that if it was that successful at the time, imagine how much success the sequel will have, of course assuming all goes well with it. Even if it flops, though I really hope that DOESN'T HAPPEN, I’ll still be proud of the work Dreamworks did.
One of the biggest things I love about Shark Tale, aside from the story is it’s soundtrack, which features mainly Hip Hop, R&B and Pop songs by artists such as Sean Paul & Ziggy Marley, Missy Elliot & Christina Aguilera, Justin Timberlake featuring Timbaland, Mary J. Blige, Ludacris featuring Bobby V & Lil Fate (which is my personal favorite), Jojo, India Arie, D12 and more. I recently found out that Hans Zimmer, who composed the musical score for my top favorite Disney movie The Lion King, is one of the producers of the Shark Tale soundtrack and also did the score for the movie.
If it wasn’t for the film’s soundtrack, I wouldn’t know half the artists I know now. Not to mention, I wouldn’t know the film’s other cast members, aside from Will Smith. As for the sequel’s soundtrack, I’d like to see new artists on it, like some of my favorite artists. Some of my favorite music artists include Chris Brown, Tyga, Omarion, Bow Wow, Mishon, Lil Twist, Diggy Simmons, Khalil, Jaden Smith, and Marqus Clae. Note: Some of the artists I mentioned are underrated and deserve more attention. PS, I think online critics, even those on Rotten Tomatoes judge Shark Tale too harshly.
In conclusion, please sign my petition in hopes of seeing Shark Tale 2 or whatever they decide to call the sequel. Aren’t you just a little curious to see what the sequel would be about? Would you like to spend time with the old characters while meting and getting to know new ones? Who knows, maybe it’ll be better than it’s predecessor or at least as good as it’s predecessor.
