Joseph Boehme started this petition to Dr. Victoria Bastecki-Perez

Our objective is to gather awareness to create an organic urban food garden at Montgomery County Community College. This petition is the first step and a demonstration of support to the Montgomery County Community College administration.

According to the CDC poor nutrition is a risk for chronic disease and 6 in 10 adults in the US have a chronic disease. Learning to grow organic food is one way to promote a healthy lifestyle for students, staff, and the community.

I propose the creation of an organic sustainable urban food garden which would be operated on the Blue Bell campus of the Montgomery County Community College by students, staff, and community volunteers.

I hope the Montgomery County Community College’s “Urban Garden” program will provide food to those in need through organic urban farming. Future integration with the Montgomery County Community College Culinary Institute might be possible as well.

Program Goals:

 - A garden to grow organic food for consumption by the Montgomery County Community College community especially those students that are food insecure.

 - Gardens for educational demonstrations of learning to grow food.

 - Utilize modern organic techniques in irrigation, fertilization, composting, and pest management for a good harvest.

This petition is modeled after the successful petition for the University of Delaware April 22, 2013.
