We are MCL not BBL

We are MCL not BBL
The Issue
Malayan Colleges Laguna and Blackboard Online (LMS)
Since May of 2020, Malayan Colleges Laguna has been continuously pushing for a full online class replacement for Face to Face Class Learning which has proven to be ineffective, inadequate, and unprepared.
Majority of Students while going thru this experience has encountered many concerns regarding the learning materials provided to the students. Some may have the ability to adapt to these changing platforms but majority do have a lot of concerns with regards to the way how these type of Learning environments are conducted.
Low Quality Learning Materials
May it be a math course, a programming course, an engineering course, or even a course for architecture. Majority, but not all, learning materials were either a mere exact copy of readily available materials found on YouTube, Google, and other such sites to provide a baseless and ineffective learning solution to be intuitive enough for the suite of online class learning. A common norm between many students is that they learn better with a simple YouTube video than the materials provided provides the basis for the lack of quality of such learning materials therefore making it practically irrelevant. We applaud those professor who took the time to record themselves in BBL to simple discuss the Learning Materials and create BBL replays of what they thought but in this current situation, this is not the standard being implemented.
Pressured to the Limits
Students from Architecture are boat-loaded with plates that are either irrelevant or inadequate for the time provided. Engineering Students are having calculus which are just copy-pasted materials from the internet. Some professors dont even allow a reasonable consultation for students. While CCIS students are forced to learn on manual like books that are merely a copy from Google. ETYCB Students are forced to work harder to learn on concepts that are better taught in a face to face interactive setup. SHS students forced on limits they can't even accomplish. And with Low Quality Learning Materials, maybe no.
IP (In Progress)
While MCL did promise an In Progress mark for those who will not be able to finish on time. This seems logically unfair with regards to how it is currently setup to work. an IP mark just guarantees that you could continue to work on your existing course without any payment in the biggest disadvantage of having a reduced course load. This is a sentiment that it is the students fault that they'll get an IP grade, they should have more consideration with students having a hard time in their course. But no, if you fail while submitting all needed requirements from prelims to finals and you fail, you'll get a failing mark not an IP mark. This is not a Pass or IP situation. This is literally a Pass and Fail situation more of like a regular face to face. and remedial is highly dependent on your professor/department and is not an automatic guarantee.
20% refund?
Malayan Colleges Laguna is only offering 20% tuition refund given the fact that we only have less than a week's worth of physical face to face classes. This seems very unfair greatly to those that feel the this current method is inefficient.
WHAT WE WANT:
- Better Learning materials equates to better learning quality. Creating own questions, lesson materials that bring intuitive learning to it's new standard to adapt to the new normal.
- Re-evaluate student tuition refund and provide a more detailed and transparent analogy to provide a more reasonable basis for the refund procedures.
- Extend the TERM. All deadline coexist between the 3rd week of june and the 4th week of June. This time is simply not enough.
- Retain teachers staff, salary, benefits, while this is currently in place in times of pandemic and the new normal. Further guarantees of their tenure, as teachers, professors and faculty, to teach us is important to us.
- Provide a more compassionate guideline for In Progress Mark. Allow a way for them to fully return and catch up with those who can adapt. Create a way for MCL to provide necessary materials (Ways to access BBL, architectural materials, engineering materials, programming requirements, and many more) that meets compassionate and economic needs.
