Why this petition matters

Started by CCPS Class of 2020

As you all may have heard, Clayton County Public Schools superintendent, Morcease Beasley, is considering virtual graduations for the Class of 2020 because of COVID-19. These seniors have already lost most of their senior year due to this pandemic. Many do not have the chance to attend prom, finish out their sports season, walk across the court/field for their senior night, have their visions ceremony, or even just the fun moments that makes up the Class of 2020. There will be no senior pranks, senior nights, or even senior activities that celebrate their accomplishments. NOTHING to celebrate their very last time being together as a class. This was the moment they were all waiting for.  Many walked into their senior year thinking it would be their best and most productive year and were looking forward to ending it with a bang! Although this may not be the outcome, the least they could have is the chance to walk across the stage in front of their loved ones. Class of 2020 has been in school from K-12 and it would be sad to not celebrate their accomplishments the correct way. They have worked long and hard for this chance to walk across the stage and they definitely deserve it. Having the graduation virtually won’t be the same as walking across the stage. With that being said, this petition was made in hopes of graduation being postponed to a later date, rather than being on a virtual platform.
