Good morning! Yesterday, Eric took quite a turn for the worse. It's unclear at this moment what exactly was the cause, but he became even more ill than he already was. We received word last night that a matching liver may become available this morning, but that Eric was too sick to undergo surgery. The amazing staff here at the University of Alberta Hospital worked all night to help Eric. They gave him many different medications and blood products. This morning the transplant team reviewed Eric's condition and decided to go ahead with the transplant. This is a very long and risky surgery. I've been told that transplants normally take 6-12 hours, but I am anticipating it will take longer given how sick Eric is now. I will update everyone after the surgery is complete.
