Make Clark County School District Rewrite their SH/SA Protocols
Over the past month (as of August of 2021) There have been at least three reportings of sexual harrassment/sexual assault throughout the district of Clark County. The most recent one being at Eldorado High School. A senior by the name of Gianna was sexually assaulted by another student named Nathan Soto. Our school handled this poorly, by suspending everyone who exposed him and deemed it as "cyber bullying." After the situation caused a rise at school, Gianna and her assaulter were placed in the same room to "talk things out." Gianna could do nothing but scream at him. Gianna, the victim, is risking an expulsion for being the main focus of the issue. Meanwhile Nathan, is still currently on campus. The school have since made them sign an agreement to not talk or be within the same area as each other.
Everyone that was suspended, as well as their friends and families, do not find this at all to be in any way fair to the victim and are all seeking higher actions. Another man, by the name of Keegan Walker who also goes to Eldorado, sexually assaulted a girl at a different school. As far as I am aware, nothing was done at said school and I have heard nothing about Keegan or the assault around Eldorado.
I and everyone else involved do not believe this system is just and we are desperately asking for a change. Gianna's assault was reported in July of this year, but after things have stirred up in school, investigations are just now getting started. I have seen too many women, two of which were close friends, be mistreated by the school and police. I want there to be better handling and quicker responses and protocols so that the women that I go to school with won't ever have to worry about being silenced again.
