Immediate Removal of Dr. Noel Wilkin & Full Return to Pre-Covid Campus Operations

Immediate Removal of Dr. Noel Wilkin & Full Return to Pre-Covid Campus Operations

The Issue

We, the Petitioners, demand the immediate resignation or firing of Provost and Vice Chancellor of Academic Affairs, Dr.  Noel Wilkin for the reasons outlined below.  We also demand immediate provisions, as outlined below, for a 100% return to face to face classes and full campus re opening to Pre-Covid operations at the University of Mississippi, Oxford, MS.

We, the Petitioners, believe that the 2020-2021 altered academic experience of the vast majority of our young adult students is unacceptable and constitutes a failure by the University to provide the value promised and is a serious breach of contract. This 'Bait and Switch'  in the Fall 2020 by the University and faculty occurred once it was too late, deliberately depriving students of the opportunity to seek other options for the semester. We demand the removal of Dr.  Noel Wilkin immediately through his resignation or firing.

Throughout the course of this academic year Noel Wilkins, has repeatedly ignored calls, emails and pleas from parents and students for academic help and a return to face to face classes. He has failed to serve the tuition paying students and parents by not responding to our hundreds of calls and emails throughout the 2020-2021 academic year.  Noel Wilkin is responsible for the actions of deans and faculty of the University. He has permitted the conduct of classes by faculty living in other locations, including internationally,  many who have failed to respond to student emails for weeks or at all.  We have over 50 pages of documentation from parents and students outlining hundreds of instances of depression, mental and emotional damages from the social and academic isolation resulting from the actions of the University of Mississippi.  Two of these instances include suicide attempts.  We refuse to fund an institution with a Provost who has allowed the infliction of academic and mental destruction upon the lives of our students. We believe this justifies our demand for the removal of Dr. Noel Wilkin immediately through his resignation or firing.

The undersigned Petitioners, jointly demand that the University of Mississippi  immediately implement the necessary policies and procedures, communicated to Department Chairmen and Professors/Instructors, to mandate the return to academic instruction conditions which the students and parents were initially promised when decisions were made to attend the University in Fall 2020. This implementation is to begin no later than the start of May 17th (May 2021 Intercession). In addition, we demand a full reopening of all campus operations to Pre-Covid levels by May 17th 2021.

We, the Petitioners, believe that keeping college classrooms open is critical to the mental, emotional and physical well-being of our young adult students.

Petitioners also believe that our young adult students are being unnecessarily deprived of a critical and valued aspect of instruction that should be taking place in the classroom with no requirements of (a) limiting numbers from the norm, (b) social distancing, or (c) any other measures tainting the customary educational experience expected upon making the financial commitment to the University.

Petitioners demand the immediate removal of Dr. Noel Wilkin through his resignation or firing due to a financial breach of contract, financial and emotional damages to students and the continued academic and social isolation that he has allowed and/or mandated.
