We are close to 200 signatures.

Now I believe in Barbados and my people. I truly do. I have been verbally threatened because of initiatives like this. Yes...I've been threatened and been told I am trying to steal land just for doing the right thing. I'm not intimidated at all. We are going to make sure the neighborhood gets what it deserves.

This situation is far more endemic in underserved neighborhoods that you can imagine. Here is what the Tragedy of the Commons means in the context of our residents destroying our neighborhoods. Barbados has witnessed an influx of vehicles into our small island. Any owner of something knows that the longest and most costly phase of ownership is maintenance and upkeep. These vehicles being abandoned are a result of individuals having access to the resources (vehicles) but not expecting the cost of maintaining the vehicle.

These individuals lack a sense of community and are making decisions for their personal profit at the expense of the larger community. This behavior is unacceptable and is indeed the Tragedy of the Commons.

It is time to ensure that NO communities in Barbados adopt this state of mind. NO communities should have to grapple with scenarios like this one.

Time to do better

Shayne
