Equity For QLD Fossikers

For a long time now, Queensland fossickers have faced draconian and inequitable laws when it comes to our hobby.

The Honorable Dr Anthony Lynham MP, we request that you review the current Queensland fossicking legislation and open up more area's in QLD for fossickers to enjoy their hobby.

We also request that you review the limited number of designated fossicking areas throughout Queensland and make an allowance to open more regulated fossicking areas in state forests throughout the state so we can continue to enjoy our hobby.

Queensland has very few designated fossicking areas and there are no permission areas in the vicinity of Brisbane. local councils have recently closed the last remaining fossicking areas of Gold Creek, Burpengary Creek and Enoggera Creek.

By denying access and closing incumbent permissions areas, this will only encourage people to venture into surrounding state forests and illegally fossick in non regulated areas.

"Also...We would like to see an increase in state land such as areas in QLDs many STATE FORESTS set aside for the purposes of fossicking and access to all with a current fossickers permit...."

Currently, all Queenslanders who wish to fossick in a designated permissions area are required to obtain a government issued permit. The Queensland permit fee is the most expensive in Australia compared to other states. Queensland has the least amount of permissible fossicking areas in Australia when compared the other states and Queensland has the tightest rules and regulations pertaining to the fossicking legislation.

QLD fossicking license fees:

1 month for an Individual $7.50 no GST applicable.
Family $10.80 no GST applicable NA

6 months for an Individual $28.50 no GST applicable.
Family $36.60 no GST applicable.

1 year for an Individual $50.90 no GST applicable.
Family $64.10 no GST applicable.

VIC fossicking licenses fees - A miner’s right valid for 10 years can be purchased for $17.70.

NSW fossicking license fees - You can apply for a 12-month state-wide permit from Forestry Corporation online for $27.50 including GST. This allows small-scale fossicking for recreational, tourism or educational purposes in State forests.

A single permit may cover a family group with a maximum of 5 people covered by a permit (2 adults and 3 children under 18 years of age).

WA fossicking license fees - $25.00 for a lifetime permit.

SA fossicking license fees - $ 0.00 They can basically go anywhere excluding private land where they have to get obtain permission.

Please help us and allow "Queensland" fossickers to continue to enjoy and partake in a hobby that assisted making Queensland what it is today.

We are carrying on a tradition started by the "Pioneers" of this great state however, with the current restrictions imposed by laws it makes it harder to enjoy our hobby to the fullest.

We ask that our "Artisan Rights" be considered and request a review of the current legislation to reflect this and provide us with greater access and freedom to enjoy our hobby.

Thank you for your support

Kind Regards
