Let ND high schools play

The Issue

Friday night, North Dakota governor Doug Burgum issued an order. Included in that order was delaying high school sports and extra-curricular activities for four weeks; until December 14th. Many high school sports have short seasons, and 4 weeks can contain a solid chunk of a season’s games/competitions.

A major impact this can have on high school students is academic performance. Many students see sports and activities as a major aspect of motivation to do well in school. Not letting us play can affect the grades of many student athletes all across the state. As a high school student athlete, I can attest to the fact that sports play a major role in my social and physical well-being, as well as being a big motivator to do well in the classroom.

We ask the governor to please give us our full season. We ask to play.

Think about the players; the ones who are getting their lives, and their dreams stripped from them.

Think about the plentiful small communities in our great state. Their high school sports teams are everything to them.

Think about the parents. They’ve watched us grow up through sport.

All we ask is to get our full season, so we can learn, grow, and most importantly, make the best out of the current situation and have fun.

Please share this with others to spread the word.
