Pass and Enact Computer Science For All #CSForAll

Pass and Enact Computer Science For All #CSForAll
The Issue
In January 2016 Computer Science for All ("CSForAll") was announced. While a component of #CSForAll is proposed federal funding to states to expand computer science education in the nation’s schools, the wider intent of #CSForAll is to underline and emphasize the priority that Computer Science education – and STEM more generally – can and should be to the nation.
The Congress has yet to take up this proposal. Further progress on this important effort to expand computer science education will happen during the administration of President Trump.
Improving the economic prospects of Americans was a centerpiece of President-Elect Trump’s campaign. Computer science education provides critical skills to both kids and adults – skills that will help them compete for great paying jobs not only in technology but in any industry being reshaped by technology. Computer science education is also critical to our national defense. CS Ed is a cause everyone can support on both sides of the aisle.
We seek President Trump and his administration’s support for the effort to expand computer science in the nation’s schools. We seek his partnership to support state and local efforts – i.e., local control which has proven most effective to date – to expand computer science. We ask President Trump to join the many business leaders, governors, and education leaders who have called on Congress to make computer science education a priority. Computer Science education can and should be an important component to the new President's economic and education agenda.
We ask President Trump, his Education Secretary nominee Betsy DeVos, and the next Congress to support, pass, and enact a Computer Science For All bill, or something similar they'd propose based on their own policy preferences).
We also ask the next President to tweet out his support for #CSForAll during Computer Science Education Week (December 5-11) or soon after.
