STOP THE CDC GUIDELINES FROM ENTERING OUR SCHOOLS

STOP THE CDC GUIDELINES FROM ENTERING OUR SCHOOLS
The Issue
I am writing this not only as a mother of an autistic child and educational advocate but on behalf of all children, special needs or not. When i first saw the guidelines for schools to reopen I was taken back in disbelief. Then I began wracking my brain after to speaking to many many parents and hearing their responses which matched my reaction. I thought I have to try and make a difference , I have to try and be a voice thats heard. I cant sit back and do nothing. Hence why I am here. These guidelines are unrealistic and prisoners have more rights in jail than our children would in an environment that is meant for them to learn and socialize. Many of our children have severe deficits and need a multitude of therapies throughout the day. They would be denied these services such as PT OT ABA etc. Its not feasible nor rationale or reasonable to expect them to remain in one room. They would then not be the least restrictive environment and certainly it would entail being denied FAPE ... There are teachers and therapists that are certified to specific subjects and now one of them will be expected to do everything ? How is that possible ? All day in the same environment is not developmentally appropriate. Masks on kids all day is dangerous. Let alone for the child that has sensory processing disorder or the one that has ADHD. This plan will also require so much more funding for the meal programs to come up with prepackaged meals or find even less nutritional options. Not to mention the many children that have food allergies and now there is no segregation with a cafeteria. You will need more buses and drivers causing more money to be spent. Special education students become at risk because of these limitations. Hearing impaired Students who read lips suffer. Teachers become overwhelmed at these new expectations and resign. Students develop more behavioral issues due to lack of stimulus and loss of social emotional programming. Goodbye to advanced classes and duel credit programs with this new criteria. This is a violation of a free and appropriate public education for special needs students. CDC has no business coming up with guidelines until they sit with educational agencies to see what is actually manageable. This is totally and utterly unacceptable. Children have already regressed with remote learning. This will just further widen the gap and alienate them further. I beg you to please reconsider. Many of our districts are already in trouble with funding and budgets. This would be detrimental on accounts on behalf of all children everywhere
