As a citizen I believe our communities should be safe.As a father I believe our children should not fear police. As an American I believe in the Constitution. As a Veteran I have sworn to protect our country against enemies foreign and domestic. This is my attempt in upholding my oath in hopes that our government will uphold theirs rather than this falling on deaf ears. The death of George Floyd at the hands of the police has brought to light a very serious problem in our country. Not of racism, because I would like to believe there are far more people who condemn it rather than participate in it. I'm talking about some of the men and women who volunteer to serve our communities to protect the people who pay their salaries. The officer who murdered George Floyd needs to be apprehended and charged for his actions. The officers who stood by and watched this repulsive act need to be taken into custody as well for not performing their duties to protect and unarmed citizen. These officers were accomplices to the crime. They stood idly by as George Floyd begged and pleaded with them as he was handcuffed on the ground with a knee in the back of his neck. I am starting this petition to hold every single officer in this particular situation to be held accountable, not as just citizens but to a higher degree because of their positions. I want to make clear that not all police are bad, but ones who cover for, do not report and do not act when a fellow officer is breaking his oath and using his badge to abuse the power that was trusted to him, those are the true bad guys. I am calling on everyone to share and sign this petition in an action of unity against crimes like this. I am calling on all representatives of the people to listen to our voices and start holding law enforcement to a higher degree than the slaps on the wrist we have witnessed way too many times in the past. These officers need to be taken into custody, charged and tried for their crimes just as any other citizen would be. We want justice. We want civility. We want trust in our representatives. Push for legislation to stop allowing bad cops to get off the hook and stop making excuses for them. We will not take this anymore. Prosecuting one officer is not enough!
