Don’t Take Our Kids’ Teacher Away — 25+ Years of Excellence at Risk
The Issue
What if the teacher helping your child grow, learn, and love school was suddenly taken away—after 28 years of dedication?
This is the reality our children are now facing at Agnew Elementary—and it could be your child next year who no longer has access to her classroom.
Mrs. Rosemary Zavala, a Transitional Kindergarten teacher at Agnew Elementary School in the Santa Clara Unified School District, is facing layoff despite 28 years of teaching experience, including 25 years serving students in the San José Unified School District.
She has dedicated 21 years to preschool and the past 7 years to Transitional Kindergarten, focusing on the most critical early years of a child’s development.
This decision is deeply concerning.
Mrs. Zavala is not just an experienced educator—she is a teacher who shapes how children feel about school for the rest of their lives. She creates a classroom where students feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. Our children come home more confident, more independent, and genuinely happy because of her.
Losing a teacher with this level of experience, dedication, and impact is not just a staffing change—it is a direct loss for our children and our entire school community.
At a time when young students need stability, care, and strong educational foundations, removing a proven educator with nearly three decades of experience sends the wrong message.
Cutting 28 years of experience hurts students.
We respectfully urge the Santa Clara Unified School District to reconsider this decision and retain Mrs. Zavala at Agnew Elementary School.
Our children deserve experienced, dedicated teachers.
Our community stands behind Mrs. Zavala.
