The Issue

In the 'spring' of 2025, the BBC will be restricting BBC Sounds to the UK. Hundreds of thousands of Brits abroad, be they travelling, working or living abroad, will no longer have access to their beloved radio shows and contact with home other than the World Service. What is this 1970 again?

I have always loved BBC Radio. Brits abroad love their BBC radio. The BBC offers unique and special content and has pioneered the best radio in the world. No commercials, no sponsors, just quality content.

Take 6music, my favourite radio station. I have been a loyal listener since it started, and when the BBC threatened to axe the station a few years ago, the listeners all came to its rescue.

BBC6music is my rock. I can't imagine my day without Chris Hawkins, or Lauren, without Cloud Busting on the train to work, without Craig in the Afternoon on the way home or RadMac on a weekend morning.

When I moved to the Netherlands in 2014, I couldn't imagine doing that without being able to take the BBC with me. I don't want to go back to the days of the World Service on Long Wave. We have the technology, so why are we going backward?

All the Brits and Anglophiles abroad would gladly pay a subscription if that's what it takes. We are not doing any harm by being able to listen outside the UK.

What the BBC is effectively doing is investing time and money to take away a service that requires very few resources but offers something so vital for Brits abroad. This is also a pointless step backward in time.

I believe this is a very regressive, isolationist move by the BBC. Please reconsider! Don't take away our radio, please?
