Don’t Let Them Erase Breonna Taylor’s Legacy

The Issue

Breonna Taylor should still be alive today. Her death in 2020 — killed in her own home by Louisville police during a botched raid — shook this city and the country to its core.

We marched, we grieved, and we demanded a better future. The Department of Justice responded with a civil rights investigation, ultimately finding widespread constitutional violations by the Louisville Metro Police Department. The proposed consent decree was one way to begin repairing the harm.

But now, the Trump administration wants to walk away.

The DOJ has announced its intention to cancel the federal agreement that would help prevent another tragedy like Breonna’s. If we let this happen, we’re not just scrapping a document — we’re turning our backs on the very idea of justice.

We won’t let that happen.

This petition calls on Louisville’s local and state leaders to reject this reversal and move forward with police reforms anyway. We must not treat Breonna Taylor’s life as a political football. We must not allow her name to become a memory without meaning.

Progress is fragile. Accountability is essential. And justice demands that we keep going — no matter who’s in power.
