Don't Let SVKM Students Go Hungry; Restore Our Campus Canteens!
The Issue
To the SVKM Management:
Right now, thousands of students across our campuses are facing a daily, exhausting crisis. Following the recent stricter FDA rule implementation across Mumbai, all three of our canteens on the ground, the 6th, and the 8th floor have been abruptly shut down and removed without any warning or alternative solutions provided.
For many of us, this isn't just a minor inconvenience. It is a serious threat to our daily well-being, health, and academic productivity. Our student body is diverse, comprising of local residents and a massive population of outstation students, most of whom rely entirely on campus facilities for their meals.
Here is the harsh reality of our current situation:
- With classes beginning as early as 7:00 AM and often stretching late into the evening, these canteens were our only lifeline. We are given barely 15 to 30 minutes for breaks. Because the nearby "Anand" food stall was also removed a few weeks ago, we have absolutely nowhere around campus to grab a quick meal.
- Many students transition directly from college classes to demanding internships. Expecting young adults to power through 10-to-12-hour days on an empty stomach is incredibly unfair and detrimental to our physical and mental health.
- While bringing a home-cooked dabba is a solution for some, it is practically impossible for outstation students living in hostels or PGs, or for local students who have to catch trains at the crack of dawn.
We completely understand that FDA regulations must be followed and campus safety is paramount. However, management cannot simply strip away essential food services without providing a contingency plan for the thousands of students who depend on them. The silence from the administration has left students stressed, hungry, and completely in the dark.
Our Demands are Simple and Urgent:
- Immediate Intervention: We urge the SVKM management to treat this as an urgent crisis and prioritize finding a safe, compliant, and accessible food solution on campus immediately.
- Transparency and Communication: We demand immediate and timely notifications regarding what steps are actively being taken to resolve this, along with a clear, definitive timeline for the return of our canteens.
We are asking for basic support and communication from the institution we trust with our futures. One cannot simply take away our only food sources with no indication of their return.
Please sign this petition to stand with SVKM students and demand transparency, accountability, and the immediate restoration of our campus food services.
