The Issue

Texas lawmakers are pushing a bill based on a hoax – and it’s students who could pay the price.

House Bill 3902, known as the FURRIES Act, claims to stop kids from using litter boxes or acting like animals in schools. But here’s the truth: there’s no evidence this is happening anywhere. Even the bill’s author, Rep. Stan Gerdes, couldn’t name a single Texas school where this has occurred.

This myth has been thoroughly debunked by educators, school officials, and journalists. So why is the Texas Legislature wasting time and taxpayer money on it?

This bill doesn’t protect anyone. It targets students for harmless self-expression, spreads misinformation, and opens the door to bullying, surveillance, and censorship in schools. Instead of addressing real problems like underfunded classrooms and teacher shortages, lawmakers are using culture-war panic to score political points.

We can’t let baseless fearmongering become law.

Tell the Texas Legislature: drop HB 3902 and stop legislating lies. Our students deserve truth, safety, and respect, not shame and scapegoating.
