End All-Male Corps in Drum Corps International

Since their beginnings, the Cavaliers Drum & Bugle Corps and the Madison Scouts Drum and Bugle Corps have been exclusively all-male. As the marching arts evolve, so have many of their traditions, but their tradition of being all-male has failed to keep up with the times and with basic ethics. It is time to end the unjustified exclusion of women in some of Drum Corps International's top corps.
In this era, we recognize the equal ability of women in every activity and industry, especially the arts. It has long been established that women are capable of achieving an equal or greater level of artistry and physical facility as men in the most competitive corps and marching bands. The Cavaliers and Scouts argue that it is simply a matter of tradition, yet they continually abandon many other traditions and adapt to shifts in the paradigm of the marching arts. The idea that women cannot participate in organizations who are ambassadors for music and music education sends a destructive message to young women who look up to them and who aspire to be great musicians and educators. Music and the arts have always been at the forefront of movements that advance the rights and dignity of all persons. Drum Corps International is long overdue to completely end discrimination in every affiliated corps.
Please add your name and a message to DCI, the Cavaliers, the Madison Scouts, and their sponsors urging them to end the discriminatory exclusion of women from the corps!
