Stop the false advertisement of gluten-free pizza

The Issue

On May 7th, 2012, Domino’s announced that it will be the first national pizza delivery chain to offer gluten-free crust to its consumers, a statement backed by the National Foundation for Celiac Awareness (NFCA), which offers an official accreditation program to restaurants that serve gluten-free items. It was also announced that, while the pizza crust may be gluten-free at the beginning of the process, the end result is a pizza that likely contains gluten, an issue caused by the cross-contamination of non-gluten-free items that are prepared in the same space with the same equipment and utensils as gluten-free items. Therefore, the pizza is misrepresented as being gluten-free and could potentially lead to the harm of customers with a medical condition known as Celiac Disease, an auto-immune disorder that triggers the system to react to gluten (a protein found in wheat, rye, and barley) by causing damage to the small intestines and preventing the absorption of essential nutrients. The advertisement of Domino’s “gluten-free” pizza is false, as well as misleading, and should be modified to a more accurate description.
