Feminine Hygiene Products Should Be A Right, Not A Luxury.

The Issue

No one actually chooses to have a period. Women dont sign up to have periods. But as a matter of fact, women can’t control their periods since it is biological, and we have no choice in the matter. We all know that sanitary products could be a little pricey, considering the fact that not everyone actually has an access to it due to its price. It is said that an average woman spends at least $13.25 or at least 500 PHP on sanitary products per month, which for some people, could seem such a luxury, for having to take care of something which you didn’t choose to have in the first place. Period poverty is very much a thing - where 1 in 10 teenage girls are unable to afford sanitary products. It is also a “thing” that tampons are listed under “luxury tax” but why are they listed, and taxed as luxury for something that we cannot control and nobody asked for? Let us also talk about the fact that contraceptives such as condoms are usually given out for free, and very much accessible. But in reality, sex is a choice, while a woman’s period is something that cannot be controlled. We are making this petition to hopefully make a difference and make sanitary products free and accessible to all women across the globe. We believe that sanitary products should be free, and not listed as something as luxury - and should be accessible just like toilet papers.
