Our dogs need a dog beach: Please support this petition to zone a dog beach at Shorehaven Beach, Alkimos.

There is a current lack of dog beaches available on our coast. We have either Yanchep or Quinn’s Dog beach to choose from and which is a 17km stretch apart and a fair distance for all the new residents of our ever-growing newly built suburbs. Between this 17km stretch, there are over 200,000 residents in the City of Wanneroo with over 62% of households in WA owning a dog. It's time to add our fur friends to our lifestyles and build our suburbs around a healthier, active, and all-inclusive community.

I propose to rezone Shorehaven Beach in Alkimos as both a dog beach and a public beach. The proposed area of zoning would create minimal disruption to nearby residents and the well-established café, with the left side of the beach to be used for dogs only and the right side to remain as it is. This will create an all-use area and service the needs of everyone, creating a social hub for all residents and their fur friends bringing a community together, and providing the potential of a great space for all to enjoy. There could be future planning potential to create a separate entrance to the beach from the existing carpark. 

It’s time to come together for a healthier, active, and all-inclusive community.
