DODDS LANE / NORTHWAY (A59), MAGHULL

The Issue

We, the undersigned residents of Maghull, object to the proposed traffic changes affecting Dodds Lane, Northway (A59), and the surrounding service roads.

We understand that proposals discussed with Sefton Council include changes to access arrangements, including making sections of the service road between Dodds Lane and Ambleside Road one-way, and alterations to the junction layout at Dodds Lane / Northway.

We believe these changes would:

Increase traffic congestion and confusion at an already busy junction
Reduce safe and convenient access for residents

Create additional safety risks for pedestrians and cyclists
Displace traffic into nearby residential areas

Fail to properly reflect the needs and concerns of local residents

We also note that alternative suggestions have been put forward by residents, including simplifying the junction layout and improving safety without restricting access or creating unnecessary one-way systems.

We therefore call on Sefton Council to:

Reconsider the current proposals in full

Engage meaningfully with local residents before any decision is made

Explore alternative designs that prioritise safety, accessibility, and traffic flow

Ensure that any final scheme reflects the views of the community it directly affects

We ask that no changes are implemented until proper consultation has taken place and residents’ concerns have been addressed. The current Pre-consultation events have been poorly communicated to residents and limited in scope and effectiveness.
