Help Us With Our Freedom Of Expression At School

The Issue

Our school is extremely strict with uniform. We are not allowed to express ourselves in any way and we are sick of it. We are banned from dying our hair or wearing certain earrings and other forms of jewelry, and if we do we are severely punished. All we are asking for is attention on this problem so we can gain a little bit of leniency.  Students with nose piercings are forced to wear bandaids over their nose because according to school administration, our piercings are a big distraction. There is no reason as to why my public school should discourage my self expression.

  1. It is not only hair and earrings, but also clothing. our school pants are 1, extremely uncomfortable, and 2, don’t keep us warm on cold days. There was a week that temperatures dropped into the 40s and 50s,and students were extremely cold. The students that wore clothes to keep them warm were punished with detentions, referrals, and had to leave school if they could not get a change of clothes. The clothes that were worn were not inappropriate or a distraction to the learning environment in any way.

Every time we attempt to bring this up to the principals we are shut down. We are hoping that this petition will persuade them to change their mind and let us have some freedom of expression.
