It was recently announced that Edinburgh Butterfly & Insect World would be closing for good. 

This amazing wee place has been open since 1984 and is the world's longest running indoor butterfly house. In that time it has provided countless families with fun, magical, educational experiences, loads to explore on a rainy day, and opportunities to overcome our fears of creepy crawlies! 

Now more than ever these places are essential - both as places to go with our loved ones, and as places to learn about, and support, species that are essential to our planet in this time of ecological crisis.

According to Edinburgh Evening News, 'Bosses said that they took the “difficult decision” to shut its doors permanently, following a review of their future'... (and) 'that “exceptionally challenging circumstances” during the pandemic have forced them to close their doors permanently.' 

We don't know if its funds that are needed, or something else. There are currently no plans for the site. But let's let the owners of Dobbies and Butterfly World know how much support there is out there and how much we want to keep it open!
