Saving Churubusco's iconic church building

Saving Churubusco's iconic church building
Why this petition matters
NOTE: WE ARE NOT REQUESTING DONATIONS AT THIS TIME.
THIS IS A PETITION ONLY.
Up until a few years ago, this small community upheld and maintained this interesting and pretty church, Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, before a sudden closure.
Our community wants to save this building and property. Initiated by Father Murphy, it was built in 1888 by Isaac Johnson, the local community, many donors, and specialized local businesses. This Church is historic and architecturally significant.
Our goal is to have the church put on the national registry and start the restoration process. But before this commences, we want to gauge your interest in preserving the only large stone structure in Churubusco.
You can sign this petition to save this building.

HISTORY
Built in 1888 by former slave and civil war veteran, Isaac Johnson.
Initiated by Father Murphy with a design similar to churches seen in Ireland and Italy. Local families joined in to quarry nearby stone for the exterior and fell trees to build the structure. The entire church was paid for a year later by the generosity of the community.
Isaac Johnson became renouned as a master stone mason and builder. Though Isaac Johnson built several churches in Ontario, this church is a rarity among his town hall and arch bridge building projects in Waddington.
The unusual interior design and the Isaac Johnson build make this church a good candidate for historical status along with the wonderful historic stories and generosity of the people.
We appreciate you signing this petition and making suggestions.
