Petition updateI do not support a transport plan that removes 826 car parks?New cycleway designs out, more important than ever to have your say

Good afternoon,

The latest changes in the cycleway design have been released. We have till noon on Monday the 13th of November to complete the 2-question survey, as to whether we accept any of these plans or not. They have become even more complicated, slowing traffic and making the 4km stretch of Devon St West/South Road so unsafe.

Please can as many people as possible complete the survey, email concerns to the mayor and councillors, and ask to speak for 5 mins. They have been relying on people losing interest in this process, although they have all the cycle advisory groups in full force. These plans will affect the whole city over time and cost 1 billion dollars to complete only 20% of the roading network, and ratepayers will be fitting the bill for a percentage of the maintenance costs in the future.

Following the recent update regarding the Mā Ake – Your Way walking and cycling project, we would like to announce the release of the new design options for South Road/Devon Street West (SH45) and invite your feedback.

The revised designs look to maximise shared paths and two-way protected cycle lanes, as well as reviewing the use of in-lane bus stops and impacts on car parking, among other public concerns. Feedback on these close at midday Monday 13 November 2023.

The three new design options for South Road/Devon Street West (SH45) are:

Option #1: Changes made to retain more carparks near businesses, increase road width and retain two-lane queuing allowing vehicles to be side by side at key intersections. It also retains 11 in-lane bus stops proposed in the original design and would see 246 existing car parks being removed, 17 fewer than originally proposed.
Option #2: The same changes as option #1 but proposes only two in-lane bus stops. This option would result in a loss of 246 existing car parks, 17 fewer than originally proposed.
Option #3: The same changes as option #2 but introduces 600m of two-way protected cycle lane between Belt Road and Mt Edgcumbe Street but with only one in-lane bus stop. This option has two additional raised crossings and results in a loss of 210 car parks, 53 fewer than in the original proposal
