Pay the living wage & improve working conditions

The Issue

Dixons Retail made over £90million in PURE profit during 2013, on boxing day Curry's made £100,000 per second, while wages have remained on minimum wage or paying staff the odd pence above the minimum wage.

Dixons Retail must realise that the morale and happiness of employees is DIRECTLY related to good customer service. Treat the front-line staff well and they’ll treat customers well- simple! One-to-one interviews should be to HELP and support staff with any problems, not just criticise sales figures. The company must ask for regular feedback and suggestions from sales advisors and IMPLEMENT them. After all, only those on the front-line know what the customer needs and the business needs. The front-line is where a company stands or falls, so these staff should be the most respected and valued in the company. Cost-of-living pay rises should be automatic each year. Rewards and bonuses should be based on feedback from customers (not profit targets from hard-selling), customers could enter a score when entering their pin number. Managers must be trained to have “people skills” and realise their staff thrive on commendation and encouragement, NOT from constant criticism and threats.

---Below we go into more depth on our issues---

I’ve always said that the Slave Trade never went away, it just transformed into business. Most companies operate on the same model, but Currys/PC World are leading the way. Employees are treated like slaves and prisoners with no rights. They get their “bowl of soup” (minimum wage) so they keep working, and anyone not “rowing” hard enough or complaining about the abysmal treatment are simply thrown overboard (sacked). Managers (slave drivers) are control freaks who get power-trips and kicks from abusing and controlling their slaves who have nowhere else to go.
