Divert New City Hall Funds Towards Community Sidewalks and Grocery Store

The Issue

I am part of our local community and I don't own a vehicle, as do many others. The lack of sidewalks prevents children from walking safely to school, and the absence of a grocery store with fresh produce impacts our nutrition. We are challenging the proposal to use our tax dollars to construct $155 MILLION DOLLAR in tax payer funds towards a new city hall, when our community has pressing, unsatisfied needs. A year-round study from the National Center for Safe Routes to School shows that 61% of children walk or bike to school when living within a quarter-mile and 39% even within a half-mile. However, without sidewalks, this becomes hazardous. Moreover, the United States Department of Agriculture claims that 23.5 million people live in food deserts without easy access to fresh, healthy food. That's nearly 8% of the American population in a similar predicament. The cost of the new city hall could afford miles of safe SIDEWALKS and a well-stocked, fresh produce GROCERY STORE, making a direct and positive impact on our community's standard of living. Redirect the $155 million funds from New City Hall to fund sidewalks and a grocery store instead. Sign this petition and make your voice heard!

"The average homeowner in Killeen would see a 2.3 cent rate increase in 2027 to fund the design and engineering phase, which would be $4.32 per month. In 2030, the rate would increase by 8.5 cent which would fund the construction phase and be $15.94 per month to the average homeowner in Killeen. "
