As divers, we see firsthand how fragile marine environments are. From coral reefs to open-water habitats, ocean life depends on a careful balance—and once that balance is disrupted, recovery can take decades.

This issue reflects a broader challenge: balancing energy development with the need to protect vulnerable marine life. Many are concerned that current decisions may increase long-term risks to already stressed ocean systems.

As divers and ocean advocates, we have a responsibility to speak up for the ocean and the life it supports.

What is happening in the Gulf is one example of a much larger global issue.

What We Are Calling For

We are not claiming to have every solution. We are calling on those with the power, resources, knowledge, and responsibility - to act.

We call on governments, policymakers, and global leaders to listen to scientists, Indigenous peoples, local communities, conservationists, and those witnessing these changes firsthand—and to make the protection of oceans, marine life, ecosystems, wildlife, and all communities a priority in the decisions that shape the future.

We are calling for stronger protections based on science, meaningful enforcement of environmental protections, responsible decision-making that considers long-term consequences rather than short-term gain, and international cooperation on threats that do not stop at national borders.

The purpose of this movement is simple: to make protecting the living world impossible to ignore.
