Ditch the swamps. Reclaim our park.

The Issue

I am writing this petition as a concerned resident. Over a year ago, the council's decision to landscape it resulted in our park being turned into a potential hazard zone. Two dangerously deep ponds were dug in the heart of the park – a space that was once filled with the laughter of children playing, families picnicking, and dogs running free.

Improving the park's drainage system was a commendable objective, but the council's solution is excessively intrusive and does not align with the park’s original character as a safe, family-friendly public space. This calls into question the council's decision-making process and their understanding of the needs and best interests of our community.

Each year, falls into water bodies claim the lives of thousands worldwide. According to a study from The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, over 85% of accidental drownings occur at open water sites. Our park should be a safe haven for residents, not a potential drowning site.

There are countless safer, less intrusive methods available for improving drainage; our local park should not have to pay the price for lack of innovative thinking.

We ask the council to re-evaluate their landscape design and return the park to it's original state for the wellbeing of our children and the community's peace of mind. Sign this petition to support the restoration of accessibility and safety to our local park.
